Vehicle registration and insurance translation for imported cars in Ireland

If you want to bring your car to Ireland from a foreign country, you will need the necessary translated documents to insure and register it. Our team of experienced translators at www.certifiedtranslation.ie will be at your side, to make the process as uncomplicated and fast as possible for you.

What translated documents do I need to insure and register my car in Ireland?

Translation of the Certificate of Registration of a car

You will need a translated version of the “Certificate of Registration”. The original document will be provided to you by the State from which you imported the vehicle into Ireland. This is the document that contains a detailed account of all the technical specifications of your car.

Translation of the proof of ownership of a car

This document might be requested, in order to prove that you are the legal owner of the vehicle. In this case, you will need to provide a translated version of an invoice issued by your car dealer.

Translation of the Certificate of Permanent Exportation or a Certificate of Deregistration of a car

Both these documents might also be requested to register the vehicle. They will also be provided to you by the State from which you imported the vehicle into Ireland.

Translation of documentation confirming the level of CO2 emissions of a car

These documents confirm the level of CO2 emissions of the vehicle at the time of manufacture and will have to be approved by the Revenue Commissioners. They will be provided by the State from which you imported the vehicle into Ireland. It is very important provide the authorities with these documents, because, if evidence of the level of CO2 emissions of the vehicle at the time of manufacture is not available at registration, VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) will be charged at the highest rate applicable.

Translation of documents regarding driving and insurance history

Various other documents might be requested from the insurance company with regards to your driving and insurance history that will have been issued in the country you lived in.

Information on car insurance and registration

You have up to six (6) months to register a vehicle from another country once you arrive in the Republic of Ireland. To register a vehicle, it has to already be insured in Ireland. This means that you will have to find the right insurance plan for you as soon as possible, to be able to register your vehicle before the 6 month deadline.
